Moon Halo

Could you see the halo around the moon last night?

We were out on an owl hunt (more on that later) last night and noticed this incredible halo around the moon. The camera captured it perfectly.

When we got home I researched moon halos and found that this occurs when there is a thin layer of hexagon shaped crystals in the atmosphere between your eye and the moon. The crystals reflect the moon light in a perfect halo around the moon. Interesting.
