Tropical Storm Karen

It's that time of year again. Leaves are changing colors and fall is heading for the north but here in Destin it's tropical storm time.

It looks like Karen will be paying us a visit.

Luckily, it looks like she won't be more than a tropical depression and if she does actually make hurricane status, upper level winds will really hamper her growth.

We should see some rain, big waves and some wind.

Which is my favorite kind of tropical event - no need to board up the windows and hope the roof holds or the barrier island I live on doesn't become a sandbar – which means no need to panic.

And that translates to “Hurricane Party!!”

I went to the store today and stocked up on hurricane party food. Chips and dip, nachos, cheese and sausage, steaks and chicken for dinner - all of our favorite hurricane party food.

And rum because it's hard to sing Jimmy Buffet songs in driving rain without it.

The only thing that gave me a little pause was that my cousin ran into Jim Cantore at the Pensacola Airport today. Ole Jim was on a streak there for a while and if Jim showed up in your town you could bet money the storm would too.

But then his streak seemed to run out and now seeing him doesn't strike fear in my heart like it used to.

I am praying that everyone in Karen's path stays safe and she blows through without leaving any damage in her wake.
