Bone Creek

Okaloosa County is known for its sugar white sand and emerald green waters but what a lot of people don't realize is that the north end of the county is just as amazing.

We spend a lot of time exploring woods, parks and rivers and have found some really interesting places.

One of them is Blackwater State Forest's Bone Creek Recreational Area in Holt.

Bone Creek is a man made, 10 acre fresh water pond that's about 7 feet deep in the middle.

It's a huge park with picnic tables

A pavilion with tables and grills looks like a great place for a picnic

There is a dock and a roped off swimming area in the lake

And a 1.3 mile interpretive trail has been built along the backside of the lake.

The trail wanders along the edge of the lake and then a boardwalk takes you through the swamp head of the lake.

On the western end of the lake is an earthen dam which I could sit and listen to all day.

This is a really nice oasis out in the woods and I have no doubt we'll be spending some time up here this summer.
